Our learning focus for these 2 weeks:
Reading: Story focus- Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox, learning about verbs & adjectives, building our schema, non-fiction book- about Mem Fox, comprehension practice, poetry introduction, asking questions before, during, and after reading; directed drawing (art project), spelling test (Friday) Writing: Creating "Idea files," continuing narrative stories, using dialogue to bring characters to life, using commas and different types of punctuation, editing with partners, listening to mentor authors and how they write stories, having a great ending of a story; read aloud mentor stories: Owl Moon and The Leaving Morning Daily 5/Letterland: Retelling narrative stories- characters, setting, problem, solution, and events that occurred; Nouns, verbs, adjectives; Writing by using editing tools, reviewing spelling words and other commonly used words- word work, words with 2 syllables and 2 closed sounds, words with a "schwa" sound (sounds like a "uh" sound and is a different vowel- example-picnic or napkin) Math: Adding and subtracting fluently to 20 (one digit numbers), solving story problems with missing parts, writing equations, explaining strategies of how you would solve a problem, using vocabulary words: more/fewer, introducing even and odd numbers Science: Air and weather concepts- watching the WRAL weather daily report, observing & recording the weather, studying seasons and how it affects weather changes, learning about temperature and how to read and use thermometers, exploring wind by flying kites and air by balloon rockets Our learning focus for the next 2 weeks:
Reading: Reading assessments with Ms.G, asking questions before, during and after reading; Telling about a story- characters, setting, events; Letterland word skills- digraphs, open/closed syllables, blends, spelling sight words correctly Writing: Writing small moment stories (narrative true story), editing with a partner, checking for punctuation, capitals, sight words, spacing Daily 5: Introducing read to someone, word work and listen to reading; making choices for each day Social Studies: Learning about the government, community and being a citizen Math: Quick facts- addition and subtraction to 20, number partners to 10, making a ten strategy, equal or not equal equations magic mountains (addition) |
