Daily Five is a program created by the "Two sisters" who were former teachers in elementary schools. This literacy and math guide are used nationwide now and is in each of our kindergarten classes as well. The Daily 5 literacy introduction will start in mid-September and continue all year.
We will be teaching all of the five components:
Read to Self
Read to Someone
Listen to Reading
Word Work
Work on Writing
*Meet with the Teacher (this is where I have reading groups and skills practice)
During Daily 5 Literacy, we also have "Mini-lessons" where specific skills are taught to the class in quick lessons (15 minutes max) for them to practice independently during Daily 5 time. These skills can be focused on reading and writing. Examples: sight word practice, beginning sounds, sounding out new words, using spacing and punctuation in writing, how to figure out a new word when reading, etc.)
My math class also does Daily 4 Math each week. These stations are below:
Math with the Teacher
Partner Math
Math by Myself
Math Technology (Laptops)
